Tent for the Tibet Museum (Dharamsala) travelling exhibition, first used in Bodh Gaya / India 2002.
"Demthonkhang", the Tibet Museum, was inaugurated in Dharamsala / Himachal Pradesh in 1999. With text, film, and historical photographs, it illustrates the history of Tibet since 1949.
In order to make its contents accessible to a larger audience, a travelling exhibition was designed and first shown during the 2002 Kalachakra festival in Bodh Gaya / Bihar. For tens of thousands of Buddhist pilgrims from the remote Himalayan regions, it was the first encounter with a record of their own history.
The Tibet Museum was designed and produced by the Berlin designer
Markus Stümpel. It informs about the occupation, resistance, repression, escape, and new beginnings in exile – up to the systematic Sinicisation of the country today.
