Fund-raising brochure for Norlha, a pilot project for the local production and marketing of Yak wool in Amdo / Tibet.
The recent history of the eastern Tibetan province Amdo is recalled in a compilation of personal records of young Tibetans who left their home for Indian exile. The book contrasts recent photographs with historical photographs from the Griebenow archive (NYC), and illustrates the changes as well as the consistencies of the local nomadic culture.
The
Griebenow-Archive contains about 3,000 photographs taken by the Christian missionaries Marion and Blanche Griebenow between 1928 and 1949.
The highland of Amdo, one of the three cultural provinces in north-eastern Tibet, is home to yak-breeding nomads.
Norlha supports local breeders in producing and marketing fine quality yak wool for the international luxury market, and thus creates new economic perspectives. Traditional and sustainable techniques are exclusively used for all products.
